Welcome to St Vincent Institute of Education!

St Vincent Institute of Education (VIE) is an institution for general education. It provides educational services and caters for students from primary to secondary levels. These services include UMAT Preparation Course (compulsory for Medicine, Dendistry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy,...), Intensive Coaching Program (ICP) for Year 8 and Year 9 students who wish to study at Selective Schools including Melbourne High, Mac Robertson Girls' High, Nossal High and Suzanne Cory High School. VIE offers also Scholarship Coaching Course (SCC) for students at all year levels who wish to gain scholarships from prestigious private schools in Victoria.

For the convenience of our parents, VIE has opened four campuses around Melbourne. They are located in Clayton, Flemington, Richmond and St Albans. VIE teaching staffs hold different qualification degrees ranging from high to low, such as Ph D, Master and Bachelor degree, and experienced tertiary students. All depend on which job and to what year levels that they are assigned to take.

VIE Staff are always ready to assist parents with any queries and extremely dedicated to the education and advancement of the students. We trust that your association with VIE will be both enjoyable and rewarding. At VIE, it is our aim to help students to learn with joy and meaning in an atmosphere of peace, respect and discipline.

Educational Services

VIE provides two programs known as Normal Tuition Program (NTP) and Selective Coaching Program (SCP) throughout the year on term-by-term basis. The former program is curriculum based, designed to assist students who find difficlut to cope with their school works. The latter program is non-curriculum based, aimed to equip gifted students with exam skills and techniques in helping them reach their full potential. The SCP is also aimed to help students at lower year levels to well-prepare and highly success in Selective Entrance and Scholarship Exams in later years. Core subjects being taught in the NTP include English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Maths Methods, Specialist Maths. The SCP provides extra subjects such as General Ability, Written Expression and Science apart from the NTP.

How to join

Students who wish to enrol at St Vincent Institute of Education must take an entrance examination. To register and secure a place for your child at a desired campus, you may click here to register on-line. After submiting the form correctly, an instant message would appear on your computer screen to instruct you what to do.

VIE Entrance Examination enables us to assess your child's ability thru different learning areas. The exam outcome will give parents a clear indication of how well that child would sucess in future and to what areas that he/she needs to be improved. Students who achieve an averaged score of 65 percent (or higher) are recognised as gifted students and eligible to join our SCP. Students who achieve an averaged score lower than 65 percent are advised to enrol the NTP for at least one term prior to be transfered to the SCP.

2. Scholarship Coaching Program (SCP) for entry prestigious private schools in Victoria

There are two organisations that develop scholarship tests for primary and secondary school system in Victoria known as ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) and Edu Test. The exam dates for scholarships with ACER vary from February to March. ACER has classified scholarship testing programs in three types: CSTP (Cooperative Scholarship Tesing Program), SST (Scholarship Selection Test) and PSP (Primary Scholarship Program). PSP is designed for entry scholarships at upper primary levels while CSTP is used for entry scholarships at secondary levels. The major one is CSTP which has been set on Saturday 25/02/2012, many primary schools choose this date for their PSP. SST is a different kind of testing programs, it is designed for both primary and secondary levels. Some schools prefer this SST exam format and they can choose an exam date that best suits to them. For further enquiries about CSTP, SST and PSP please phone ACER on (03) 9835 7447 or click here to find the exact dates for exam scholarships with ACER or click here to find exam dates with Edu Test.

3. UMAT Preparation Course (UPC) for entry Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, etc.

UMAT is abbreviation of Undergraduate Medicine & health sciences Admission Test, which is developed by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). This year UMAT exam will be held on Wednesday 25/07/2012 (to be confirmed). The structure of UMAT consists of three different areas (sections): Logical Reasoning, Understanding People and Non-verbal Reasoning. You can find more information about UMAT by visiting ACER website.

Every year we conduct an UMAT Preparation Course (UPC) to help students who wish to gain places at prestigious tertiary courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy. This year the UPC will be conducted over two Sundays 17/06/2012 and 24/06/2012 from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Past students found that our UPC is very effective and benificial to them. In previous years it helped a lot of students to achieve very high score in UMAT, eventually they gained places at Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy as listed in our website. UMAT is compulsory to almost medical courses across states in Australia. If you wish to know more about our UPC in June this year, please click here or send an email to info@vieonline.com.au (To know the UPC In Vietnamese please click here)
