Thank you for visiting St Vincent Institute
of Education's website. I hope you will gain an insight into
the depth and quality of the strong education programs that
we offer. St Vincent Institute of Education (VIE) is
an institution for general education. It provides educational
services and caters for students from primary to secondary
levels. These services include UMAT Preparation Course (compulsory for Medicine,
Dendistry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy,...), Intensive Coaching Program (ICP)
for Year 8 and Year 9 students who wish to gain places into
Melbourne High (boys only) and Mac Robertson
Girls' High School (girls only), and Scholarship Coaching Course (SCC)
for students at all year levels who wish to gain scholarships
from prestigious private schools in Victoria.
The Year 9 entrance examination for enrtry Selective Schools is held on Saturday 19/06/2010 at Royal Melbourne Exhibition Buildings in Carlton. These schools include Melbourne High (in South Yarra), Mac
Robertson Girls' High (in Melbourne), Nossal High (in Berwick) and Suzanne Cory High (in Werribee).
Only students who are currently in Year 8 in 2010 are eligible to take the Year 9 entrance exam. Students at different year levels can also apply for an entrance exam at their appropriate levels, however, places are very limited.
Students are required to complete all six component tests. These tests include Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics and two essays on Creative and Analytical issue.
In assisting students in gaining places at the these selective schools, we open Intensive Coaching Program (ICP) every year in Term 2. Our Entrance Exam will be held in THE WILSON HALL at the University of Melbourne on Saturday 10/04/2010. Click here to find out our ICP for Melbourne High,

There are two main organisations that develop exam papers for independent schools: Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and Edu Test.
ACER makes three types of scholarship tests for Victorian schools called Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP), Scholarship Selection Test (SST) and Primary Scholarship Program (PSP). CSTP exam occurs on the same days while SST exam varies from February to May, it depends on each school. The main date for CSTP and PSP exam is scheduled on Saturday 8/5/2010. Click here to find the exact dates for scholarship dates with ACER.
Edu Test more specialises on Academic Ability tests that some schools prefer to use to test students' intellectual ability. Edu Test is used to develop exam papers for the Year 9 Entrance Exam for Melbourne High and Mac Robertson Girls' High. It also make papers for private schools that offer scholarships as well as schools that offer accelerated learning program. Click here to find out schools that are subscibed with Edu Test.
Apart from special training programs for UMAT, Selective Entrance and Scholarship Exams, VIE also provides two yearly based programs. These are known as Normal Tuition
Program (NTP) and Selective Coaching Program (SCP) which are conducted in parallel throughout the year on term-by-term basis.
The former is designed to assist struggling students with
their homework based on VELS; while the latter
to equip gifted students with skills and techniques in helping
them to reach their full potential. The SCP is designed to help students in long term preparation for taking selective
entrance and scholarship exams in future. Core subjects are being taught in
NTP including English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Maths Methods, Specialist Maths. The SCP has extra subjects such as General Ability, Written Expression and Science.
VIE has campuses in Clayton, Flemington, Richmond and St Albans. Students who wish to enrol at St Vincent Institute
of Education must take an entrance examination. To register and
secure a place for your child at a desired campus, you would need to follow this link to register on-line. After submiting the form correctly, an instant message would appear
on your computer screen to instruct you what to do.
Our entrance examination enable us to assess student's ability in different learning areas. Our exam report should give parents a clear indication of how well their child(ren) would sucess
in future and to what areas that he/she needs to be improved. Students who achieve an average of 65 percent (or
higher) from the exam are recognised as gifted students and
eligible to join the SCP. Students
who achieve an averaged score lower than 65 percent
are advised to take the NTP for at least one term prior to transfer to the SCP.
The staff at VIE are always
ready to assist parents with any queries and extremely dedicated
to the education and advancement of the students. We trust
that your association with VIE will be both enjoyable and
rewarding. At VIE, it is our aim to help students to learn
with joy and meaning in an atmosphere of peace, respect and
discipline.
